The Asphalt Paving Process

Creating a durable and smooth asphalt surface can be a tough and highly specialized job, requiring extensive skill and proven capability. Each project is unique, and the team at Rock On Paving & Construction handles each installation with a unique approach based on the work required to complete the job to a high standard. 

When starting completely from scratch (i.e., with ungraded, unprepared land), your project will involve several additional steps. The process begins with land grading, where specialized equipment is used to level and shape the ground. This may involve excavation of dirt or soil to level the land and prepare a base. This step is crucial to create proper water drainage and creates a stable foundation for the pavement. Once the land is graded, we put down a layer of crushed stone or gravel, which is compacted thoroughly to form a strong, stable base that can support the asphalt and handle the weight of traffic over time. This makes the land beneath your asphalt far less prone to shifting or buckling over time and with sustained use.

After the base is prepared, we spread hot asphalt mix over the base using heavy machinery such as pavers. The most important part of this step is even coverage to create a level and smooth final surface. The asphalt is then compacted with rollers to create a smooth final fish that is free of air gaps. Once this is done, our crew does an additional inspection, taking care of tasks such as smoothing edges and allowing the asphalt to set. Depending on the project, we also offer parking line striping, decal painting, or other professional lot marking.
